New Skinscast Episode – Great beginnings

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

skinscastbangThe Washington Redskins wasted no time demonstrating that their success in the preseason was no fluke. They put a whoopin’ on the New York Giants, breaking the curse and notching their first win to start the season.

This week the boys break down the awesome start to the new year – passing out grades both good and bad. They examined the play at quarterback, what worked in the offense and defense, and what still needs work. Pappas gives credit where it is due as far as the play of the rookies, and all marvel and the femininity of Murf as he scurried out of the way of a very large linebacker.

The writers offer their assessment of the new Redskins’ team, and give out their grades on individual performances.

And all offer their thoughts on this weekend’s game against Arizona.

New Skinscast Episode – Showtime

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

skinscastbangThe preseason is over, the roster is set, the quarterback is determined, and what remains is the start of another glorious football season.

There is a lot to discuss this week. The boys take a look at the final 53-man squad and pass judgment on the final selections. Then of course there is the decision by head coach Mike Shanahan to name Rex Grossman the starting quarterback. The gang discusses how this came to be despite what appeared to be a fix for John Beck.

It’s once again prediction time on Skinscast, and this week brings double-duty. First a prediction of the game this weekend against the New York Giants. But next comes the all-important season record predictions.

The writers chime in with their perspective on the roster and quarterback situation, and take their own stab at the game this Sunday and the season record.

Enjoy!

New Skinscast Episode – Affirmation in the land of Poe

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

skinscastbang

The Redskins went to Baltimore and acquitted themselves well. This week the boys break down the performance against the Ravens – what went well and what not so much. There was a running game, at times a passing game, and even some defense. They examine the quarterback competition and tell you who did better and who stands to get the starter’s job.

This Saturday is cut day and it is time for the gang to pick the final 53. The writers offer their assessment of the Ravens’ game, take a similar stab at the final roster, and for some reason Pappas has developed a man-crush on a linebacker named Jones.

And why is Pappas so angry in the third segment?

It is a car-crashing good show this week. Enjoy!

Washington Redskins Fall To Baltimore Ravens, QB Competition Rages On

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Washington Redskins 2011 Football Headshots

More questions than answers remain in the Washington Redskins quarterback battle following Thursday’s 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Forget the fact the Redskins lost the game in the closing seconds thanks to an impressive series of plays from rookie quarterback Tyrod Taylor. In this case, the scoreboard is not nearly as important as the stat line.

John Beck led the team on an impressive 12-play, 97-yard drive that ended with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Terrence Austin. But that was playing with his second-team offense and against the Ravens’ backup defense.

Beck said Austin was “huge” on that drive.

Overall, Beck was 6-of-10 for 108 yards with one touchdown and an interception.

Rex Grossman led the Redskins on two scoring drives. The first was capped by a 37-yard touchdown run by Tim Hightower.

The second was more impressive. The veteran led the team on an 8-play, 80-yard scoring drive that finished with a 24-yard touchdown strike to Santana Moss.

In all, Grossman was 8-of-15 for 112 yards and one touchdown on the night.

Grossman is also unsure if he did enough to win the starting job.

“I’m not sure,” he told CSN’s Kelli Johnson when asked if he thought he did enough to win the job. “I’m proud of the way I’ve played the whole preseason . . I don’t know how much we’re going to play next week. It is what it is. I feel good about it. I don’t make those decisions.”
