Wednesday’s Mike Shanahan press conference was one of the most fascinating events in recent Redskins history. The current situation presents so many compelling subplots, we hardly know where to begin.
The conventional wisdom is Shanahan will soon be gone, dismissed by Daniel Snyder. But on the way out a story was leaked saying Shanahan wanted to quit at the end of last year because of Snyder’s favoritism towards Robert Griffin III. Further, Shanahan has benched Griffin in favor of Kirk Cousins starting the rest of the year. Shanahan claims it is to protect Griffin, but what will this say about Griffin if Cousins is successful? And what of the news that Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen were briefed in advance on the benching of Griffin? Does that change the subplot?
This week the boys do their best to deconstruct current events. They ask the tough questions about Shanahan’s motives and Griffin’s development; and what these mean for the future. And is that Pappas sticking up for Dan Snyder?
Note: A lot of emotion in this week’s episode, which brings some salty language and strong opinions, which do not necessarily reflect those of the show.
Enjoy!
