New Skinscast Episode – Living in interesting times

skinscastbang

Wednesday’s Mike Shanahan press conference was one of the most fascinating events in recent Redskins history. The current situation presents so many compelling subplots, we hardly know where to begin.

The conventional wisdom is Shanahan will soon be gone, dismissed by Daniel Snyder. But on the way out a story was leaked saying Shanahan wanted to quit at the end of last year because of Snyder’s favoritism towards Robert Griffin III. Further, Shanahan has benched Griffin in favor of Kirk Cousins starting the rest of the year. Shanahan claims it is to protect Griffin, but what will this say about Griffin if Cousins is successful? And what of the news that Snyder and general manager Bruce Allen were briefed in advance on the benching of Griffin? Does that change the subplot?

This week the boys do their best to deconstruct current events. They ask the tough questions about Shanahan’s motives and Griffin’s development; and what these mean for the future. And is that Pappas sticking up for Dan Snyder?

Note: A lot of emotion in this week’s episode, which brings some salty language and strong opinions, which do not necessarily reflect those of the show.

New Skinscast Episode – It sure beats losing

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

skinscastbang

The Washington Redskins did something last week they had not done all year: they won a game. It wasn’t the prettiest of victories, but the win in Oakland counts just the same.

This week the boys break down the first W of the season. The defense was much improved, hanging six points, seven sacks, and one forced fumble on the Raiders. The offense finally managed to get going before the break, and Robert Griffin III showed glimpses of his old self.

The bye week comes early this year, and then there is Dallas to follow. Some of the predictions might surprise you.

New Skinscast Episode – The Grand Opening

Sometimes things are just what they seem. Sometimes things are just as advertised. Sometimes dreams really do come true.

Fans of the Washington Redskins could only gaze in amazement at the performance of Robert Griffin III and the 2012 Redskins. Against New Orleans Griffin was lights out, showing poise and effectiveness well beyond his years.  It was the best performance by a rookie quarterback in his debut in a long time, perhaps ever. And best of all, it ended with a win for the Redskins on the road.

This week the boys break down the win against the Saints. They marvel at the effectiveness of the offense, the playmaking of the defense, and look hard for things to criticize. Washington plays St Louis this weekend and the gang wonders what a win and a 2-0 start could mean.

And all the while they try and tell themselves it was only one game…

New Skinscast Episode – The postpreseason show

Friday, August 31st, 2012

skinscastbangThe practices have been practiced. The games have been played. And just the cuts remain between now and the start of the season.

This week the boys discuss the team’s performance in the preseason. They highlight the guys who made the cut, and point out the guys who may get cut. The guys have one last chance to change their season record predictions, and there’s a game to play in just a matter of days.

Pappas is so pleased he finally got something right and things could be so much better if Reffkin would only learn to operate a microphone.
