Year of the Rak
Brian Orakpo celebrated his birthday weekend by working out in training camp under a hot sun. Orakpo has looked good so far in one-on-one line drills. He’s been going up against Trent Williams and making his share of plays.
Orakpo believes that he is ready to take his game to another level of performance. He believes continuity will get him there.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity, second year in the defense,” he said. “It’s funny because ever since I started college I’ve had a different coordinator every year. And it translated in to the NFL as well. So this will be the first time I’ve had back-to-back in a system.”
The other thing he likes is the new additions to the line in Barry Cofield and Stephen Bowen. When asked what they bring to the defense, Orakpo describes it using just one word.
“Havoc,” he said. “Big guys up front, taking up bodies, making some big plays. When I see Cofield, we’ve been knowing what he and [Chris] Canty did with the Giants. He’s a phenomenal player.”
Then there’s Trent
The guy Orakpo has been facing in practice is second year player Trent Williams. Williams is working hard to refine his technique this preseason, but believes he is worlds better than last year when he came in as a 1st round draft selection.

Lockout over – time to get to work
Monday, July 25th, 2011As all of you know, the NFL lockout ended yesterday. And as an added bonus, the league allowed teams to begin to come to terms with undrafted free agents (though none can sign until later, nor practice until August 4th). Washington reportedly took advantage of the return to operations by coming to terms with Florida Safety Will Hill. Grabbing a defender to start is appropriate given the challenges the defense faced last year.
We at Skinscast are looking forward to the new season. The next few weeks in particular stand to be a very exciting time, with free agency, training camp, and the preseason underway simultaneously. Talk about football overload.
Skinscast will do our part by spending two hours every week breaking down the new additions to the roster, and their performance on the field. Before you know it, the season will begin and we will take you through each and every week – giving you a great mix of behind the scenes reporting, analysis and commentary. And there will probably be a few laughs along the way.
So sit back and enjoy the return of football. After the long offseason, it looks to be a very happy new year.
